That doesn't sound particularly flattering at first, but it was only meant to express the fact that Mobley's phrasing ranked between two other tenor sax champions: the "heavyweight" John Coltrane and the "lightweight" Stan Getz. On "Workout", Mobley presented himself in 1961, seconded by a quintet of young modernists
