Special thanks to collectors Matt Lollman and Mark Ward of Old & Antique Fishing Lure , Architectural Anarchy , and South Porch Antiques for loaning many of the lures, creels, and additional fishing gear you see in this story
Softex, which has a thinner consistency, is often used to dip the entire head of a fly to create a flexible, clear coating that keeps eyes in place and boosts durability without adding stiffness
It was available in three sizes, the 60, at 31/4", illustrated here, the 80, at 33/8" and the 100 at 33/5"
So it can be modular to the size of the lures or terminal tackle or it can be modular to the quantity of a particular lure or color
Dry flies use those hackles to catch surface tension and look like wings
