Not to hijack the OP's thread, but this line caught my attention as I would like to retro-convert my Abu ProMax 1600 the other way, back to a conventional anti-reverse

Id urge you to lean towards using mainly brake adjustments ( instead of spool tension ) to control over-runs

This is a great reel for the money

But dont let yourself become overwhelmed just try to focus on selecting the best reel for your particular fishing needs
