The body is covered in Doulton's celebrated high fired flamb glaze, a rich mottled crimson and oxblood ground streaked with dark veining and passages of amber and black where the copper based glaze pooled and broke in the kiln, the effect unique to each piece fired. No painted scene; the glaze itself is the decoration, in keeping with Doulton's plainer flamb
